KRASNOYARSK OPERA AND BALLET THEATER
PUSHKIN
Alexander Sergeyevich is a grand personality surrounded by controversial characters. To this day, there are many theories about a conspiracy against Pushkin, as well as myths and legends about his life.
– Nikita, you’re once again turning to a historical figure in your work in Krasnoyarsk. Do such people give you inspiration?
– I’m drawn to figures I can latch onto and spin some unexpected story around, to show a recognizable person in completely different guises — lyrical, and sometimes tragic. And the person must definitely possess passionarity — it’s precisely this character trait that makes it interesting to build a plotline around.
Why Pushkin? Although there is a lot of activity surrounding the name of Alexander Sergeyevich on the theatrical stage, and there are countless performances, I have not seen a full‑scale, strong production—especially in a musical theatre—that is structurally coherent and that shows not only Pushkin himself but also his historical context. Who did he live with, who did he conflict with, what kind of people surrounded him, and what women were by his side? The war with Napoleon, the Decembrists, various civil upheavals that stirred up society at that time, the nobility’s inclination towards everything French, then rejection, and then a return of interest in this culture — there was a great deal of interesting stuff happening in that era. That is, Pushkin’s classics are widely represented throughout Russia, but there are no performances that reveal the inner facets of the poet’s life.

DANTE’S CATHARSIS
The great Dante Alighieri, the author of the immortal Divine Comedy, wrote in his memoirs that various mythological and historical figures appear in it: Sisyphus, Cassandra, Diogenes…
According to the theater, the first performances were sold out — all tickets were bought out a few days before the premiere. And the audience members themselves shared their impressions of the new ballet with enthusiasm. “It’s an incredibly beautiful production — cohesive and harmonious. I really liked the magnificent, varied music! The costumes and characters are captivating; they perfectly match the theme of the production — for example, if it’s about the “ugly duckling,” then that’s exactly what it was. I really liked this character and the performance.” The play of light, shadow, and color complemented this delightful action! I would like to thank the entire production team, every artist and everyone involved from the bottom of my heart. You perfectly brought this miracle to life and gave it to us."

BURYAT OPERA AND BALLET THEATRE
THE LAND OF FAITH — Bargudzhin Tukum
In the national ballet of Buryatia, created to mark the centenary of the republic, love is not a coincidence. It is a karmic story. In the abduction of a noble princess who falls in love with her abductor, there are traces of past and future lives.
Nikita Dmitrievsky, who created the visual image of the performance using choreography, set design, and lighting, combined the scenes into a single whole, building an engaging drama. The stage space would become either densely populated (the female corps de ballet in “The Braiding Rite” from the first act, the male corps de ballet in the “Godon” duel that follows, the expressive scene “Mu‑shuboon – Bad Birds”), or, conversely, more sparse, giving the main characters the opportunity to soar freely, expressing their feelings.

“Modern dance is not the same as contemporary dance; it is an independent language. Almost any performance referred to as modern in Russia has nothing to do with it. It’s demi‑classic or ‘contemporary’ – that is, a classical foundation with the use of other styles, nothing more.”
If a choreographer has a sense of music and a feeling for harmony, they can create works in any language, but it’s essential to have a thorough understanding of movement — these are the two components needed to build choreography.
INTERVIEW for Elena KONOVALOVA, “Screen and Stage” No. 11–12, June 15, 2023
If an artist’s body is trained and truly expressive, it will be perfect in any form — be it modern, classical, or jazz. After all, no matter how wonderful “Swan Lake” is, the ballet stage is not limited to it alone.
“I’m a proponent of classical modernism. This style isn’t used in Russia; it doesn’t exist here at all. Yet all European theatres are built on this foundation. With a high level of classicism, they also have a high level of modernism. But in our country, we have a strong classical tradition, but an absolute chasm when it comes to modernism.”
ASTANA BALLET
ALEM
The plot is based on an ancient Turkic legend about the origin of life. This is the story of the birth of a soul and its journey to earthly life through darkness and trials. Before going to Earth, the soul undergoes a series of trials involving fear and the unknown, but it wins the battle against evil.
“Pure art cannot be deceived. If it’s a genuine work, it captivates in any case, no matter when it was created.

But if it’s an attempt to create a profanation or a copy, relying on certain clichés, it won’t have the energy of the original; it will look like something seen through frosted glass: it will appeal to some people, but not to others.”

SAN CARLO THEATRE
LA SOLITUDINE DEL VENTO
Classicism demands perfection; there are no secondary things on stage—everything matters, from the gesture to the acoustics of the hall.
THEATRE "NEW BALLET"
THE LITTLE PRINCE
The play based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince is a mystery, a philosophical fairy tale, a parable that incorporates 3D mapping technologies, a multimedia show, modern ballet, drama and physical theatre, contemporary music, a complex lighting design, and a fundamentally new approach to stage space.

“Чистое искусство обмануть нельзя. Если это подлинник, то оно цепляет в любом случае, когда бы оно ни было создано.”

— zvuki.ru
“For me, ballet is philosophy, and dance is the perception of life. All artists are a bit eccentric, but in a good way. They think and view the world from the perspective of dance. Movement is the language of communication with the outside world.”*
THEATRE "NEW BALLET"
Drei Kameraden
The echoes of German marches, Kurt Weill’s themes, combined with retro style, an undefined temporal space, and full interaction with a video installation and an orchestra, give rise to a piercing dance‑cry of the “lost generation.”
“Свет для меня стал вторым языком после хореографии - все начинается и заканчивается с него. Любое состояние можно преобразить при помощи незначительного оттенка.”

“Иногда для того, чтобы показать эмоцию в танце, нужно остановить время, иногда его нужно перемотать. Кино для меня стало новым миром, где я могу воплотить в жизнь бесконечность мгновения.”
ART HOUSE
When time stops, when the rain fades away, when the anticipation of the moment is lost in its repetition. The boundaries of sleep are lost. Where reality ends and fiction begins, the mind cannot tell… “I no longer sleep” to the music of Laurent Lamarque, performed by Darya Dmitrievskaya.
I’m not sleeping anymore.
Sometimes, to convey an emotion in dance, you need to stop time; sometimes, you need to rewind it. Cinema has become a new world for me, where I can bring an infinite number of moments to life.
WHITE SPACE
Жизнь в ее ощущениях и реальном воплощении имеет два параллельно живущих мира.
Две параллельно идущие реальности, какая из них более значима или какая в большей степени управляет нами подчас не известно.
